Thousands of tons of unsafe food discovered in kindergartens

Large-scale inspections carried out in kindergartens across Uzbekistan revealed a very alarming picture. During raids conducted jointly by health authorities and law enforcement bodies, the quality of food provided to children, compliance with sanitary rules, and general conditions were carefully studied.

According to the press service of SES, since the beginning of the year 3554 kindergartens have been inspected. In this process, the structure of meals, the composition of products, and compliance with sanitary-hygienic rules were examined. As a result, almost 9500 kilograms of spoiled or unsuitable products were separated by specialists.

In addition, out of 8122 samples of prepared food, 323 did not meet microbiological requirements. This poses a great threat to children’s health. During the inspection, it was also found that out of 4461 drinking water samples, 237 were below required standards.

Experts noted serious shortcomings in several directions:

  • out of 4986 food samples, 878 had nutritional value below the norm;

  • when testing 12301 vegetable samples, nitrates were found in 257;

  • out of 2321 salt samples, nearly 718 did not contain sufficient iodine;

  • out of more than 83,000 products tested chemically, 4110 did not meet the standards.

In addition, bacteriological tests also showed worrying results: out of more than 88,000 samples, over 9,000 did not comply with sanitary requirements. At the same time, the temperature in group rooms was constantly monitored. Out of more than 23,000 cases, in 1658 the air temperature was below the norm. When measuring light levels, out of more than 43,000 points, in 2559 cases the lighting was insufficient.

Specialists emphasized that such cases pose a serious threat to children’s health. Therefore, state bodies were forced to take strict measures. As a result, in 3705 cases fines were applied to responsible persons. In addition, the activity of 110 kindergartens was temporarily suspended, and 446 employees who did not undergo medical examination were removed from work.

These indicators once again prove the need to strengthen responsibility and control on the part of officials. Strict compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements in institutions intended for children is not only a legal obligation, but also an important condition for the future of society — a healthy generation.
