8 banks fined, 20 more warned in Uzbekistan

According to the results of supervisory measures in Uzbekistan’s banking system, several financial institutions have been sanctioned, reported centralbank.uz.

The Banking Supervision Committee under the Central Bank reviewed 43 issues at its September meeting and made corresponding decisions. Most of them were related to registration, licensing, and evaluation of bank activities.

During the inspections, it was revealed that some banks and payment organizations did not fully comply with prudential requirements and legal regulations.

As a result, seven banks and thirteen payment organizations received official warnings — they were instructed to eliminate the identified shortcomings within a short period.

In addition, eight banks were fined for violating anti–money laundering and counter–terrorism financing rules, as well as for failing to comply with legal requirements during customer service processes.

The Central Bank stated that such measures are aimed at increasing transparency in the banking system and strengthening public trust. Experts believe that this decision will help reinforce discipline in the financial market.
