Direct flights between Serbia and Uzbekistan

Belgrade and Tashkent are planning to significantly intensify economic cooperation. In this plan, establishing direct flights between the two countries is of great importance.

This step is viewed as a catalyst to increase mutual trade volume and strengthen tourism flows. Serbia’s national airline, Air Serbia, is currently conducting a detailed analysis to launch a new route to Central Asia.

Recently, as a result of high-level negotiations, the airline has been studying the Tashkent and Samarkand routes in Uzbekistan from the perspectives of economic efficiency and potential. This issue was one of the key topics discussed during the official visit of the Serbian delegation to Tashkent.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić emphasized in a statement to the Tanjug news agency that there are “broad opportunities” for interstate cooperation. On October 28, during a meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a package of bilateral agreement documents was signed.

These agreements will create a solid foundation for a preferential trade deal in the future. “I hope agreements on free trade, investment protection, and economic and trade cooperation will also be signed in the future,” Vučić said in an interview with Serbian media.

The launch of direct flights is a logical continuation of Air Serbia’s strategy to expand its activities in the Eurasian region. The airline has previously successfully launched flights to other capitals in the South Caucasus—Tbilisi and Baku.

Which of the Tashkent or Samarkand routes will be chosen will be decided after a detailed analysis of the prospects of each direction. In addition to transport links, broad areas of cooperation were discussed during the negotiations.

The parties reached agreements on mutual promotion and protection of investments, as well as economic partnership. In particular, special attention was given to the areas of tourism, healthcare, high technologies, and artificial intelligence.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed in the field of labor migration, which will create new opportunities for Uzbek citizens. According to experts, the opening of a direct air corridor will not only reduce travel time and costs for business people and tourists, but also provide a strong impetus for the intensification of cultural and humanitarian exchange between the two nations.
