Samarkand was officially recognized as a city with a 3000-year history

Within the framework of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, an international conference "Samarkand: A 3000-Year Heritage" was held, which attracted the attention of not only historians, but also the entire world community. This conference was organized to further study the scientifically proven ancient history of Samarkand and to widely highlight its role in the development of human civilization.

The event was attended by leading scientific institutions of Uzbekistan and foreign countries, historians and archaeologists, and cultural heritage experts. Acting Governor of Samarkand Region Adiz Boboyev, Deputy Director of the Department for Creative Economy and Tourism under the Presidential Administration Elmurod Najimov, and Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center Lazar Elondu Assomo spoke at the opening of the conference.

It is noted that Samarkand has been one of the important cultural centers not only of Uzbekistan, but of all of humanity. In their reports, scientists spoke about artifacts discovered during excavations at Afrasiab, Koktepa, Kalai Afrasiab, and other archaeological sites. These findings indicate that the first settlements in the Samarkand region date back to the 2nd millennium BC.

"Archaeological evidence clearly proves that the city was formed as an early center of civilization, and its culture has been continuously developing," the experts emphasized.

Also, as a result of scientific analysis and chronological research conducted in international cooperation, scientists unanimously came to the conclusion that "the history of Samarkand is at least 3000 years old." This led to the official revision of the previous 2,750-year estimate.

According to a joint statement by UNESCO and the government of Uzbekistan, the age of Samarkand has now been officially recognized as 3,000 years. This historic decision is not only of great scientific importance, but also further strengthens Samarkand's place in world culture.

Thus, the rich history, architectural monuments, and cultural heritage of the ancient city were once again recognized at a high level within the framework of humanity's common civilization. Samarkand has now opened a new page in the status of a truly "three-thousand-year-old city," as an integral part of not only the history of the East, but also the entire world.
