Reports have spread on social networks that from January 1, 2026, red and yellow category cars included in "ecological zones" will be fined. However, this information does not correspond to reality.
In fact, from January 1, 2026, an eco-sticker, that is, the "Environmental Transport" system, will officially be launched in Uzbekistan. However, penalties are not immediately applied for non-compliance with system requirements. The introduction of fines is scheduled to begin in at least two years.
This was reported by the press secretary of the Road Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zoyir Yuldashev. He noted that eco-stickers will be in three colors - green, yellow, and red. Drivers who initially received yellow or red stickers will be given the opportunity to change their color.
Diagnostic centers operate in all regions of the country. Vehicles with yellow or red eco-stickers will have the right to change the color of the sticker if they pass a technical inspection in these centers and meet the established requirements. For example, if a car with a red sticker tries to enter a clean area, the driver will be notified in advance.
According to the specialist, all information about vehicles is maintained electronically in the Road Safety System. In most central cities, cameras and surveillance equipment are installed, and control is carried out through a single electronic platform.
Most importantly, the application of fines for cases where the color of the eco-sticker does not meet the requirements of the region will be introduced not from January 1, 2026, but after two years. Therefore, for now, this system serves more as a period of adaptation and preparation for drivers.
