The updated draft of the “Uzbekistan–2030” strategy sets a goal to connect 85% of the population to drinking water supply services on a permanent and sustainable basis by 2030. The plan will cover rural areas as well as cities. This was reported by podrobno.uz reports .

According to the document, coverage will increase step by step: 82% in 2026, 83% in 2027, 84% in 2028, 84% in 2029, and 85% in 2030. The focus is specifically on ensuring uninterrupted access to drinking water.

One of the key priorities is the planned expansion of the Tuyamuyun Reservoir. By increasing the reservoir’s capacity by an additional 1 billion cubic meters, the aim is to improve water supply across 1.2 million hectares and build up drinking water reserves.

At the same time, measures to use water more efficiently will be strengthened: by 2030, water-use efficiency is planned to increase by 25%. The targets include introducing water-saving technologies on 100% of agricultural land, expanding drip irrigation to 500,000 hectares, and raising the annual capacity of local manufacturers of such technologies to 300,000 hectares.

The draft also highlights drinking water consumption metering as a separate issue: it предусматривает 100% provision of water meters for all consumers.

To reduce systemic problems in the water sector, the area of land with problematic groundwater levels will be reduced to 773.4 thousand hectares. The length of main and inter-farm canals lined with concrete will be increased to 13.1 thousand kilometers, which is planned to account for 46% of their total length. It is also envisaged to increase to 2,000 the number of water management facilities transferred to management under public-private partnership arrangements.

In addition, drinking water tariffs in Tashkent city and Jizzakh region may be revised. The main reason cited is the increase in electricity prices in May 2025. It is reported that since the new tariffs have not yet been approved, “Ozsuvtaminot” enterprises have incurred losses of 128 billion soums.
