Trump called on Uzbekistan to secure a permanent seat in the Peace Council

US President Donald Trump invited Uzbekistan to take a permanent seat in the International Peace Council for the Gaza Strip. According to the presidential press service, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received an official invitation from Trump to "join the international initiative to strengthen peace and resolve conflicts in the Middle East."

The letter notes that this initiative is based on a comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza, announced on September 29, 2025, supported by world leaders, and approved by UN Security Council Resolution No. 2803 of November 17, 2025. That is, it is not just about an idea - it is presented at the international level as an initiative "put on paper" and linked to supporting documents.

The main essence of the initiative is the creation of a new international structure, the Peace Council, uniting states ready to take responsibility for ensuring long-term peace, stability, and security. It is noted that Uzbekistan was invited to join this structure as a founding state.

It is reported that Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a response letter to his American counterpart, stating that Uzbekistan is ready to join the Peace Council as a founding state. In his letter, the President assessed this initiative as an important step towards resolving the long-standing conflicts in the Middle East and strengthening peace and stability in the wider region.

It should be recalled that after the ceasefire, there were several discussions about the plan to form an international body to manage the territory in the Gaza Strip. Against this backdrop, the White House has also announced that some prominent figures will be included in the council: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Whitkoff, US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

However, according to the draft charter reviewed by Bloomberg, the tasks of the Peace Council may not be limited to Gaza alone. The document defines it as an "international organization striving to promote stability, restore trustworthy and legitimate governance, and ensure lasting peace in areas affected or threatened by conflicts." That is, this model resembles a platform with a broader mandate, not "one point - one problem."

According to the draft, the council will be chaired by Trump himself, and the decisions will have to be finalized by him. Thus, although the format provides for collective discussion, the "final signature" can remain in the center.

The invitation of Uzbekistan as the founding state increases the likelihood that Tashkent's role in the international arena will become more visible. This proposal can take Uzbekistan's participation in the regional and global agenda to a new level, especially at a time when practical initiatives on such topics as peace, negotiation, and stability are increasing. In short, if geopolitics is a "chessboard," it seems Uzbekistan is opening up another move - now the main thing is how that move will result.
