The number of births and marriages is declining in Uzbekistan

In 2025, significant changes were observed in Uzbekistan’s demographic indicators. In particular, the number of births and marriages in the country decreased. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice, which presented official data.

According to statistics, a total of 884,500 children were born across the republic in 2025. This figure is 5.3 percent lower than in 2024, when 926,400 births were recorded. Experts note that this decline was observed in almost all regions and reflects an overall trend.

By region, the highest number of births was recorded in the Samarkand region — 105.8 thousand. This was followed by Kashkadarya region with 99.0 thousand and Fergana region with 98.0 thousand newborns.

The lowest figures were recorded in Navoi region, where 24.1 thousand children were born. In addition, 36.7 thousand births were registered in Jizzakh region and 38.6 thousand in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

A downward trend was also observed in the capital and surrounding areas. In particular, 71.4 thousand children were born in Tashkent city and 63.5 thousand in Tashkent region, both lower than last year’s figures.

Notably, the share of late parenthood is increasing. In 2025, 6,100 women became mothers after the age of 40. At the same time, approximately 600 men became fathers after the age of 60. This indicates a gradual shift in the age of family formation and childbirth.

In addition, the number of marriages in the country also decreased. In 2025, a total of 267,100 marriages were registered, which is 1.7 percent lower than in 2024 (271,800 marriages). It is worth noting that 2024 was recorded as the lowest figure over the past 15 years.

However, not all areas show a decline. In particular, the number of marriages with foreign citizens has increased significantly. If only 300 such marriages were registered in the first half of 2021, the figure rose to 1,900 in 2022. In 2023, 1,800 marriages were recorded, and by 2025 this number reached 3,400.
