156 million dollars of meat imports in two months — what are the reasons?

In January–February 2026, it became known that Uzbekistan imported meat and meat products from abroad worth approximately 156.9 million dollars. On the one hand, this means a wider choice for consumers, but on the other hand, it is a sign of pressure on the domestic food market.

Beef accounts for the largest share: within two months, 25.9 thousand tons of beef worth 120 million dollars were imported from abroad. This represents a significant increase compared to the same period last year. In 2025, the figures were 17.3 thousand tons and 68.3 million dollars. Thus, within one year the volume of beef imports almost doubled.

Chicken meat imports also increased. In January–February, chicken worth 13.7 million dollars was imported (in 2025 it was 11.4 million). As for mutton, the quantity remained almost the same, but the price rose sharply: 3.3 thousand tons cost 8.1 million dollars, while last year 3.4 thousand tons cost only 3.4 million dollars. This shows a slight decrease in quantity but a noticeable increase in price.

During the same period, 5.9 million dollars were spent on meat by-products, and another 4.6 million dollars were spent on canned meat products. These figures also increased compared to 2025.

The most surprising was the import of duck meat: duck meat worth 521.7 thousand dollars was imported, which is almost 35 times higher than in the same period last year.

As a result, urgent measures are needed to strengthen domestic production reserves and stabilize price fluctuations. Consumers, meanwhile, respond differently to the current price increase: some reduce their consumption, while others pay more attention to product quality.
