A new anti-crime law was adopted in the Majlis

In the session, deputies within the framework of the Oliy Majlis discussed a new draft law aimed at strengthening the fight against organized crime and offenses in public places. During the discussions, it was noted that in practice some organized groups often avoid serious liability for hooliganism, getting off with mild punishments, which strengthens an atmosphere of impunity in society.
According to the draft law, responsibility for hooliganism is being significantly tightened. The document provides that acts committed by a group of persons repeatedly, with the use of weapons, or while resisting law enforcement officers will be subject to stricter penalties.
According to the proposed amendments, the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan Article 277 is supplemented with a new Part 4, according to which hooliganism committed by an organized group or causing serious bodily injury is punishable by imprisonment from 8 to 10 years. Under the current provisions, intentional infliction of serious bodily harm as a result of hooliganism is punishable by imprisonment from 5 to 8 years.
It is also proposed to introduce strict liability for patronage of criminal groups using official position. For such persons, it is suggested to restrict the possibility of parole. However, if a person reports the activity of a criminal group in advance and helps prevent serious consequences, they may be exempt from liability.
The draft law also includes a provision introducing criminal liability for the illegal organization or conduct of competitions in combat sports. According to analysis, in 2025 three illegal MMA and similar tournaments were held.
Following the discussions, the draft law was adopted in the first reading and is expected to be considered in more detail in the next stages.
