Free legal aid expanded for low-income families

Uzbekistan has expanded free legal aid services for low-income citizens, a move formalized by a new law. Under the updated regulations, financially disadvantaged individuals are now entitled to state-funded legal assistance when seeking to challenge the constitutionality of laws in the Constitutional Court. The process for receiving this aid has also been simplified, with applications directly routed to relevant court bodies via an information system. These changes aim to strengthen legal protection and improve access to justice for the population.
The system of legal support for low-income citizens has been further expanded in Uzbekistan. This was strengthened by Law No. ZRU 1135 dated April 20, 2026.
According to the new procedure, persons with disabilities will also have the right to receive state-funded legal assistance when applying to the Constitutional Court to verify the constitutionality of the law applied in court.
Additionally, the process of providing legal aid has been simplified, and it has been determined that citizens' applications will be sent directly to the relevant judicial authorities through the "Legal Aid" information system.
It is noted that these changes will serve to strengthen the legal protection of the population and expand access to a fair judicial system.
The law entered into force on the day of its official publication.
