5 new floodwater reservoirs to be built in Uzbekistan

A new resolution has been adopted in Uzbekistan aimed at the efficient use of floodwaters and improving the water supply for agricultural lands. In accordance with the President's resolution "On measures to ensure the efficient use of floodwaters," the construction of 5 floodwater reservoirs in the republic's regions is planned starting from 2027.
These projects are intended to improve water supply in several regions. Specifically, the level of water supply will be increased for 7,000 hectares in the Samarkand region, 2,000 hectares in the Tashkent region, and 300 hectares in the Jizzakh region. This is expected to have a positive impact on agricultural productivity.
Furthermore, the construction of floodwater reservoirs will create opportunities to develop new land areas. It is planned to bring 3,300 hectares of new land into agricultural circulation in the Samarkand region and 300 hectares in the Tashkent region. This will serve not only to use water resources rationally but also to create new economic opportunities.
The resolution also approved a targeted program for the floodwater reservoirs to be built between 2027 and 2030. According to this, the projects will be implemented in stages. Necessary land plots for reservoirs, related facilities, quarries, and construction sites may be acquired for public needs in accordance with the law.
In this process, any potential property damage to individuals and legal entities will be compensated in the manner prescribed by law. This ensures that the rights of citizens and entrepreneurs are taken into account during project implementation.
In short, the goal in Uzbekistan is to use floodwaters effectively for agriculture and water supply instead of letting them go to waste. The construction of 5 new floodwater reservoirs will help mitigate water shortages, develop new lands, and increase stability in the agricultural sector.
