France delivered the first Mirage 2000 fighter jet to Ukraine

French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced that the first Mirage 2000 fighter jet has been delivered to Ukraine. The aircraft will be flown by Ukrainian pilots who have undergone several months of training in France.

The aircraft has been modernized and is equipped with modern equipment, new electronic warfare systems and air-to-surface missiles.

Macron's promise and the volume of supply

French President Emmanuel Macron said in June 2024 that he was ready to supply Ukraine with Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets, but did not disclose their exact number.

According to La Tribune, France will supply these aircraft in limited quantities. The country can allocate a maximum of six fighters, since out of 26 existing French aircraft, 20 are in active squadrons. It is planned to involve other countries to increase the volume of supplies, and the total number of aircraft delivered is expected to not exceed 12.

Expert opinion

Ukrainian military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko, in his comments to The Insider, noted that the maintenance and repair of the Mirage 2000-5 aircraft may pose certain difficulties.
