Explosion in Taiwan shopping mall (video)

A gas explosion occurred in a shopping mall in Taichung, Taiwan on February 13. At least five people were killed and several others were injured, according to official sources. CNN reported in detail about the incident.

The incident reportedly occurred on the 12th floor of the shopping center, during construction work on the food court. It was reported that about 5 people died and 20 were injured as a result of the gas explosion. Also, about 235 people were evacuated from the building and the surrounding area as part of security measures.

Video footage showed glass panels falling onto the sidewalks and roads below, blocking traffic and smoke billowing from the 12th floor. Other footage from inside the mall showed damaged walls and water leaking from broken pipes.

Taiwanese President Lai Hsin-tse announced that a number of government agencies, including the Ministry of Health, were mobilizing to provide medical assistance to the victims. The President demanded an investigation into the causes of the incident as soon as possible and appealed to the public not to approach the scene.
