Scholz: Russia's victory or Ukraine's collapse "will not lead to peace"
A Russian victory in the war or the collapse of Ukraine “will not bring peace,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told reporters in Berlin on Thursday, February 13.

The politician explained that he agreed with US President Donald Trump that Russia’s war against Ukraine should end as soon as possible in order to stop “death and bloodshed.” He also supported the White House leader’s decision to call Vladimir Putin and recalled that he had spoken with the Russian president. At the same time, Scholz called for a “long-term” and fair agreement that would allow Ukraine to preserve its sovereignty. “That’s why we will never support a peace under orders,” he added.

Scholz: Peace treaty should not be forced on Ukraine

Earlier, German Chancellor Donald Trump said in an interview with Politico that an agreement to end the war in Ukraine should not be forced on Kiev, following comments by the German Chancellor about talks with Vladimir Putin.

He also said that Ukraine should be allowed to “develop after the peace treaty,” which would mean having a “strong army” that was larger than before the war and equipped with Western weapons.
