Vance: "Russia and China are not the main threats to Europe"
The United States is more concerned about the "threat from within" Europe than the threat posed to the continent by Russia and China. This was stated by American Vice President J.D. Vance at the Munich Security Conference.

"The threat that worries me most about Europe is not Russia or China. I am concerned about the threat from within - the retreat from the most fundamental values of Europe," Vance said.

The Vice President cited the cancellation of constitutional elections in Romania under the pretext of Russian interference. He also criticized censorship and migration policies in European countries. “When I look at Europe today, I am surprised to see what some of the winners of the Cold War have become,” Vance concluded.

In October 2024, Andrius Kubilius, the candidate for the first European Union defense commissioner, said that the bloc should increase its military capabilities for a possible confrontation with Russia and be ready for a military conflict “in six to eight years.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also supports increasing EU military spending.

This year, the Munich conference is being attended by the United States, including J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Representative for Russia and Ukraine Kate Kellogg. Russian representatives have not attended the Munich conference since 2022.
