In Argentina, the “Union for the Fatherland” party is demanding the start of impeachment proceedings against President Javier Milley. This was reported by Sinembargo.
The opposition’s decision was prompted by the fact that Milley X (formerly Twitter) published a post about cryptocurrency on his page on the social network.
“Milley’s involvement in cryptocurrency-related fraud is a very serious matter. This is an unprecedented scandal. The parliamentary bloc has decided to introduce a motion of impeachment against the president,” the party said in a statement.
On February 14, Milley X posted information on the LIBRA cryptocurrency, which “will help stimulate the growth of the Argentine economy.” Local traders began buying the coin, which eventually raised its market value to $6 billion, but the currency then plunged 94 percent.
The president later deleted his post and said he had “decided not to support the project any further because he did not know the details.” Users called him a “fraud,” and investors lost tens of millions of dollars.
