The United States has not invited the Ukrainian delegation to talks with Russia in Saudi Arabia, as Washington plans to hold separate bilateral meetings with representatives of Moscow and Kiev, and then organize a joint meeting. This is reported by NBC, citing sources among American officials.
"This shows that we are cooperating with both Russia and Ukraine with the same level of activity. We want to stop the deaths and achieve a lasting peace," one of the channel's interlocutors said.
NBC's source close to the Ukrainian president confirmed that Kiev has not yet been invited to the meeting between Washington and Moscow in Saudi Arabia.
The Russian and US delegations will meet in Saudi Arabia on February 18, Axios and Kommersant sources reported. The US side will be represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Representative Steve Witkoff and National Security Advisor Mike Walz.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously announced that Kiev would not participate in the meeting. The Ukrainian government has demanded that the US side discuss the agreement first with Kiev and then with Moscow.
When US President Donald Trump was asked if Zelensky would be involved in the talks, he replied in the affirmative, but did not specify which meeting he was talking about. The politician also said that he would meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia "very soon".
