Israel sets new conditions for prisoner exchange
In Israel, as negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza begin, reports claim that Tel Aviv authorities are trying to introduce new conditions that could jeopardize the deal.

The first phase of the agreement between Hamas and Israel, which came into effect on January 19, lasted 42 days. During this period, 1,135 Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli jails, while 19 Israeli captives held in Gaza were returned.

According to official Israeli data, there are currently 73 Israeli captives in Gaza, with more than half presumed to be alive.

The second phase of negotiations, originally set to begin on February 3, is being delayed. It remains unclear how the new conditions imposed by the Netanyahu government will impact the process.
