US President Donald Trump said that the presidents of Russia and Ukraine should meet to resolve the conflict between the countries. He also reiterated his desire to end the fighting.
“I think President Putin and President Zelensky should meet... I want to see a ceasefire and an agreement,” Donald Trump said at a press conference. His words were broadcast by Fox News.
Donald Trump said that his phone calls with Vladimir Putin went better than with Vladimir Zelensky. He also said earlier that the Ukrainian president did not need to participate in negotiations to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
On February 20, Vladimir Zelensky met with Keith Kellogg, the US President's special representative for Ukraine and Russia.
The Ukrainian president said they had a “good conversation with a lot of details.” The sides exchanged detailed views on the situation on the battlefield, the return of prisoners, and security guarantees. The Ukrainian president expressed his readiness to conclude a “really beneficial” agreement with Trump.
“Ukraine has been striving for peace from the first seconds of this war, and we can and must make peace reliable and long-term so that Russia cannot start a war again. Ukraine is ready for a strong, truly beneficial agreement with the US president on investments and security. We have proposed the fastest and most constructive way to achieve results. Our team is ready to work 24/7,” Zelensky said.
