US President Donald Trump hopes that the Russia-Ukraine war will end in a few weeks. He said this at a press conference at the White House with French President Emmanuel Macron.
“I think we can end this in a few weeks. If we are smart. If we are not smart, it will continue and we will continue to lose young, beautiful people who should not be dying. And we do not want that,” Trump said.
The US president also stressed that he does not want to allow the conflict to escalate and start World War III.
“If this is not dealt with independently, it could lead to World War III. There will come a time when the war will not be limited to these two countries. It will involve other countries. And it could really lead to a very big war - World War III. We will not allow that,” Trump noted.
Trump also announced his intention to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky in the next two weeks to sign a natural resources agreement.
“He could be here this week or next week to sign the agreement, and that would be great. I would be happy to meet with him in the Oval Office,” Trump said. According to the US president, the United States and Ukraine are “very close to reaching a final agreement” on rare earth metals “and other issues.”
On February 22, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said that Donald Trump believes that the war between Russia and Ukraine will end “this week.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a press conference on the eve of the third anniversary of Russia’s large-scale invasion that the war with Russia “cannot be ended this week.” Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
