On March 4, US President Donald Trump delivered a 100-minute long speech to Congress. The speech was one of the longest in US history, and discussed the war in Ukraine, foreign policy, the economy, and national security.
Important statements on Ukraine
Trump said he had received an "important letter" from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that Ukraine was ready to start peace talks as soon as possible. The US president said he intended to use this opportunity, adding that he had also received "strong signals" from Russia for negotiations.
"My team and I are ready to work to achieve a lasting peace under the strong leadership of President Trump," Zelensky said in his letter.
Minerals and Economic Strategy
Trump announced that he will take historic steps to expand the production of rare earth metals in the United States by March 9. He stressed that this step will serve to strengthen the US economy and control strategic resources.
Trump also:
- Announced a plan to increase import tariffs. Retaliatory tariffs on China, India and the European Union will take effect on April 2.
- Said that he plans to strengthen US industry and manufacturing through a tariff war with Canada, Mexico and China.
- Said that he plans to begin construction of one of the world's largest gas pipelines in Alaska.
Criticizing the Biden administration

Trump called the Biden administration “grossly incompetent” and noted that the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan led to the war in Ukraine:
“When Putin saw the US’s disorderly withdrawal from Afghanistan, he realized that this was his opportunity.”
He also criticized the rise in inflation and record egg prices during Biden’s tenure.
Plan to buy Greenland
Trump once again expressed his desire to annex Greenland to the United States, emphasizing its importance for international security:
“We intend to acquire Greenland for national and international security. If you want to be with us, we will create new opportunities for you.”
Mars and the Future of America
At the end of his speech, Trump promised to plant the US flag on Mars:
“We want to send humanity into space and plant the American flag on Mars. America’s golden age is just beginning!”
Criticism from Democrats
Trump’s speech was sharply criticized by members of the Democratic Party:
- Texas Congressman Al Green called for Trump’s impeachment.
- Some Democrats left the hall wearing T-shirts with the words “Racist.”
- Members of Congress called Trump’s statements about social benefits “Lies!”
Trump’s 100-minute speech was an important step for his re-election campaign. He made a series of aggressive statements on foreign policy, the economy, and national security. Democrats strongly opposed some of his views, but for Republicans and his supporters, the speech was seen as a sign of the beginning of the "Golden Age of America".
