Active consultations have begun between Ukraine and the United States on the upcoming peace talks with Russia. According to US President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Michael Walz, the date, venue and participants of the talks are being discussed.
Trump ready to support peace talks
The American government is considering measures to practically strengthen the peace talks. According to Walz, if Ukraine and Russia take steps to strengthen mutual trust, Trump is ready to discuss the restoration of military assistance to Ukraine.
"If the talks strengthen and concrete measures are discussed to increase trust, Trump will seriously consider the possibility of lifting the freeze on the restoration of military assistance," Walz said.
On March 3, Donald Trump suspended military aid to Ukraine. A few days after this incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his readiness to sit down at the negotiating table.
Zelensky and Yermak are actively working on the negotiations
Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, also spoke by phone with Walz and had important discussions on the peace talks.
"We discussed the next steps on the path to a just and lasting peace. We also exchanged views on security issues between Ukraine and the United States and on coordinating the positions of the two countries. Our teams will meet soon," Yermak said.
Zelensky also reported on the meeting of the US and Ukrainian delegations, noting that the negotiations have accelerated:
"Today, our teams have started working on the meeting between Ukraine and the United States. Andriy Yermak and Michael Walz said that there is positive momentum. We hope for the first results next week," he said.
Trump receives letter from Zelensky
On March 4, US President Donald Trump said in a speech to Congress that he had received an "important letter" from Volodymyr Zelensky. The letter stated that Ukraine was "ready to come to the negotiating table to ensure a lasting peace as soon as possible."
Trump also noted that he had received "strong signals" from Russia.
