Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has strongly rejected the talks proposed by the United States and powerful countries. In his opinion, such talks are not offered to solve real problems, but rather for the purpose of political domination and pressure.
"The negotiation proposals of some powerful countries are not aimed at solving problems, but at dominating and realizing their own interests. Iran will definitely not accept their hopes," Khamenei said.
Iran rejects US negotiation offer
In recent days, there were reports that US President Donald Trump had sent a letter to the Iranian leadership and offered to hold talks on concerns about the country's nuclear program.
However, Iran's UN mission said that no letter had been received. Tehran also denied the possibility of negotiations.
Nuclear deal and relations with Europe
Khomeini also criticized European countries in his speech. According to him, Europe is talking about Iran's non-fulfillment of its obligations under the nuclear deal, but they themselves have not taken any action to implement the agreement.
"You claim that Iran has not fulfilled its obligations. So, have you fulfilled these obligations yourself? You have been inactive since day one," said the Iranian supreme leader.
Khamenei also noted that the United States was the first to withdraw from the nuclear deal and that Europe has not taken any real action in this regard.
Trump's attitude and political confrontation in Iran
Trump said last month that there is a possibility of reaching a new nuclear deal with Iran. He said that he wants to reach an agreement "without bombing" Iran.
On March 7, Trump said that “interesting times are coming in relations with Iran.”
At the same time, Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga called for talks with the United States. However, Ali Khamenei opposed this and stated that the country’s position was firm.
The incident also highlights the internal political contradictions in Iran - while one side supports negotiations, the top leadership does not allow this.
The possibility of serious tensions in US-Iranian relations in the near future is increasing.
