US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that if the Russian government rejects the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, it could have a significant impact. Reuters reports.
Rubio explained that if Moscow responds negatively, Washington will try to determine the Kremlin's true goals and mindset.
He noted that the United States is eagerly awaiting Russia's response and has called on it to consider the possibility of ceasing hostilities.
"If they reject it, it says a lot about their goals and mindset," Rubio said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the situation. He stressed that Moscow will not make any compromises with Kiev if it threatens the fate of these people.
Lavrov said that the Russian government knows very well what steps it will take in this conflict.
"We are not talking about territories, but about people who have been deprived of their history and rights," the minister said.
Lavrov also noted that if the West doubts Moscow's position, it may continue its mistakes.
Recall that on March 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that there would be no compromises on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
All the conditions for signing a peace treaty have been announced repeatedly:
The withdrawal of Ukrainian Armed Forces from the DNR, LNR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, Ukraine's refusal to join NATO, neutral status and the implementation of denazification and demilitarization processes.
