Putin agrees to 30-day ceasefire proposal from US and Ukraine

Putin agrees to 30-day ceasefire proposal from US and Ukraine
A few days ago, a US and Ukrainian delegation met in Saudi Arabia and Kiev reportedly agreed to a 30-day ceasefire. At that time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that "the ball is now in Russia's court." Today, the Kremlin rejected this proposal. However, Putin, who attended a press conference with Alexander Lukashenko later that evening, agreed to the proposal.

Trump's special representative arrives in Moscow

US President's special representative Stephen Whitkoff has arrived in Moscow. Earlier, it was reported that his plane flew from Doha to Moscow. Trump's representative also participated in the negotiations between Hamas and Israel in Qatar. Whitkoff is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

New York real estate developer and billionaire Witkoff is Trump's special envoy for the Middle East. The US president also had a full-fledged special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, but Steve Witkoff, not Keith Kellogg, arrived in Moscow. Earlier, the media reported that Keith Kellogg had been removed from the war talks.

Kremlin opposes 30-day ceasefire

The Kremlin will not accept a temporary ceasefire, said Yuri Ushakov, the foreign policy adviser to the Russian president and the country's de facto foreign policy chief.

"This is nothing more than a chance for the Ukrainian military to catch their breath. Our goal is not short-term, but long-term peace. We should not pretend to be striving for peace," Witkoff said in a brief interview with Olga Skabeyeva.

The Rossiya 1 TV host asked Putin's adviser if this statement could be interpreted as a Kremlin rejection of the agreement. Ushakov said no, President Putin will make a separate statement on this issue at a press conference today.

Putin's adviser says that this is not the Kremlin's position, but of course he cannot say such a thing without Putin's permission.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the world has still not received a response from Russia on a ceasefire, which is a sign that Moscow does not want to end the war.

By the way, Putin met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Moscow today. The Russian president likes to consult with his friend Lukashenko before making important decisions. After the meeting, Putin, who participated in a press conference, said that he agreed to a 30-day ceasefire, but that its conditions should be agreed upon.
