Peruvian fisherman Napa Castro was lost at sea for 95 days and was found alive a few months later off the coast of Ecuador, the Peruvian newspaper Peru 21 reported.
Napa Castro set out on his fishing boat, the Gaton 2, from his home town of Marcona on December 7, 2024. He had been in contact with his relatives, but 10 days later, when he was near Santa Rosa Island, he lost contact. His relatives immediately launched a search, but it was impossible to find any trace of the fisherman's boat.
After 84 days of searching, news has come from Ecuador — Napa Castro has been found alive off the coast of Ecuador. The fisherman had spent the last 15 days suffering from dehydration before being rescued by the crew of a local fishing boat.
After his rescue, Napa Castro told his relatives via video call that he was alive and well. The Peruvian fisherman's family has now asked the government to help return Napa to his homeland.
This incident has become a great example for Peruvians and fishermen around the world, showing the importance of fighting for life even in extremely difficult conditions. The discovery of Napa Castro alive, despite months of intensive search efforts, is a success story of a person's continued hope and perseverance in surviving.
