A medical worker who worked at a hospital in western Germany is accused of killing nine patients and attempting to kill 34 more, Bild reported, citing local prosecutors.
The man was a clinic worker in the city of Würselen. In 2024, hospital management noticed suspicious circumstances in his work and contacted the police.
The worker was arrested in July 2024 and charged with 11 attempted murders. Law enforcement agencies have exhumed several bodies to determine the number of victims and victims of the medical worker.
In February, prosecutors said the employee had killed five people and tried to kill 25 more patients. Four more murders and nine attempted murders were later added to the case.
The employee worked in a palliative care unit, where patients with serious or critical illnesses receive help to alleviate their symptoms. According to the investigation, the man deliberately and excessively overdosed the patients with painkillers or sedatives. It is alleged that the medical worker tried to spend the night shift “peacefully” without any untoward incident.
The Aachen prosecutor’s office has charged the 44-year-old man.
The suspect’s victims include patients who were being discharged from the hospital. Some of the victims suffered serious consequences from overdoses of sedatives. The investigation is ongoing.
