There is no specific information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) conducting military operations on Russian territory, but according to sources in The New York Times, Ukrainian troops recently crossed the border.
Citing Ukrainian government and military sources, the newspaper reported that fighting is ongoing near the Belgorod and Kursk regions. Russian Z-bloggers reported that Ukrainian forces are shelling several settlements in the border areas.
Ukrainian forces' movements
According to a map from the Deep State project, the Ukrainian Armed Forces control 77 km² of territory in the Kursk region, and it is not clear which side controls 13 km² of territory in the Belgorod region. The village of Popovka is located in this area, and various sources report that Ukrainian forces have entered it.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), on March 18, Ukrainian units entered the Krasnoyaruzhskoye district of the Belgorod region, reaching Demidovka and capturing three more settlements on the border.
Finnish analyst Pasi Paroinen of the Black Bird Group also confirmed this, noting that Ukrainian forces managed to create a buffer zone and captured several villages in the first days. In his opinion, Demidovka may now be under the control of the Ukrainian Security Forces.
Russian reaction
Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on Telegram on March 28 that there were skirmishes and drone strikes on Russian territory, but did not confirm the information about the movement of Ukrainian forces in the Belgorod region.
According to information published by the Russian Z-channels, Ukrainian forces have struck several bridges in the Belgorod region. This is believed to have been done in order to isolate the area. According to the "Ribar" channel, the KGB has occupied the village of Popovka and has deployed large forces against the Krasnoyaruzskoye district.
Position of Ukrainian officials
A senior Ukrainian government official, Andriy Kovalenko, in an interview with The New York Times, stressed that Ukraine is conducting combat operations to defend its territory from Russian attacks.
According to him, Ukraine aims to destroy Russian forces located in the Belgorod region, as Moscow was planning to use these forces to attack Ukrainian territory.
The military actions between Ukraine and Russia have reached a new stage, with Ukrainian forces striking at areas across the border. Although confirmed information from both sides is limited, this process indicates that the armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia may further escalate. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
