Brazilian police successfully prevented a horrific terrorist attack that was planned for May 3, Sunday, during a free concert by world-famous American singer Lady Gaga at the iconic Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. This was reported by the country’s law enforcement press service.
It is stated that during a large-scale operation, two members of a group planning to carry out a terrorist attack using explosives and Molotov cocktails were arrested. One of them was apprehended in Rio Grande do Sul for illegal possession of firearms, while the second was detained in Rio de Janeiro on suspicion of distributing and possessing child pornography.
Investigations revealed that the dangerous group was recruiting teenagers into radical ideologies, inciting them toward hatred and violence. The organizers introduced themselves in social media groups as members of Lady Gaga’s global fan base, the “Little Monsters,” and used this to attract many young people to their cause.
According to Brazilian media, police monitored the group's online communications, which helped them uncover and stop the plot in time.
Lady Gaga’s free concert at Copacabana beach became one of the most significant cultural events not only in Brazil but throughout South America. According to the singer’s own post on social media, over 2 million fans attended the event, making it one of the largest concerts of her career.
Local authorities allocated large funds to organize the event, hoping it would boost the city’s economy and increase tourism. Estimates suggest the concert could bring in about $100 million in revenue to the city.
Thanks to the police’s successful operation, a major tragedy was averted, which has been widely praised by the public and media. Further investigation and legal proceedings are still ongoing.
Both the singer, the event organizers, and the Brazilian government expressed their gratitude to the security forces. Lady Gaga, via her social media accounts, wished health and peace to all her fans and expressed hope that such events would never happen again. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
