The European Union has demanded that Israel
The dire situation in the Gaza Strip is worsening day by day, putting the lives of the population at risk. In a joint statement issued by Kaia Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and the Commissioners, the Commission called on Israel to immediately lift its blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

“The Gaza Strip has been completely cut off from humanitarian aid for more than two months. Tons of humanitarian aid, intended for 2.2 million people and sufficient to last for three months, are still at the border. With the lifting of the Israeli blockade, this aid can quickly reach those in need. As an occupying power, Israel is obliged to ensure the access of humanitarian aid to the population in accordance with international law,” the EU said in a statement.

The statement noted that the use of humanitarian aid as a weapon is in clear violation of international law.

It is worth noting that since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, Israel has been systematically blocking the entry of food, water and other essential goods into the Gaza Strip. This has further worsened the living conditions of the population in the sector and created the threat of mass starvation.

The administration of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved plans to expand operations in the Gaza Strip, even to completely occupy the sector and forcibly relocate the population. Such actions have been strongly condemned by the international community.

The foreign ministers of six European countries - Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Slovenia and Spain - also condemn Israel's plans to expand its military operation in Gaza and remain in the territory permanently.

"These actions violate international law, further aggravate the humanitarian situation in Gaza and threaten the prospects for a two-state solution," the joint statement of these countries reads.

Since the start of the conflict, 52,653 Palestinians have been killed. Most of the victims are women and children. In recent days, another 59 civilians have been killed.

The European Union and the international community are demanding that Israel immediately lift the humanitarian blockade to ensure that aid reaches the people of Gaza.
