Zelensky says Ukraine is ready for peace talks with Russia: What will Moscow’s response be?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of major European countries, during phone negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump, made an important statement. They declared that if an agreement is reached with Russia on a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire, Ukraine is ready to begin direct peace talks. This was reported by Axios, citing its sources.

This significant conversation took place during a meeting of the “Coalition of Willing” held in Kyiv, which was attended by Zelensky along with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

During the phone call with Trump, the leaders of the allied nations emphasized that if Russian President Vladimir Putin decides to reject this initiative, European countries will impose even stronger economic sanctions against Russia.

According to Axios’s source, Donald Trump expressed that he was “very pleased” with the fact that the Ukrainian leader accepted the ceasefire proposal and declared Kyiv’s readiness for peace negotiations with Russia.

“President Trump is pleased that Kyiv and European capitals support his initiative. Now we are waiting for a response from Moscow,” said the source.

In turn, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on the proposal. He stated that the offer represents a new direction and that Russia needs to consider it seriously.

“Of course, this is a new situation for us. We will proceed based on our position in any case. We clearly see and understand Europe’s attitude towards us at this time. Europe is actively working against us, and we are aware of this. But Russia has always stood strong against such pressure and has grown accustomed to it,” said Peskov.

According to international analysts, if the 30-day truce agreement is implemented, it could be a crucial step toward resolving the Ukraine-Russia conflict through peaceful means. However, the Kremlin’s response will be of decisive importance.

For now, the global community is awaiting an official response from the Russian leadership to this proposal. At the same time, Europe and the U.S. are demonstrating their readiness to increase economic and political pressure on the Kremlin over this issue. This could play a critical role in either escalating the situation further or paving the way toward peace.
