The reputation of the United States has declined under Trump: China and Russia are strengthening their positions

Since Donald Trump took office as US president, the country's standing on the international stage has been declining significantly. This was reported by Politico, based on the results of the 2025 Democracy Perception Index (DPI).

The study was conducted with the participation of more than 110,000 people from more than 100 countries, who assessed their perception of democracy, global politics, the geopolitical situation and the influence of leading countries.

According to the survey results, the majority of the world's population expressed a negative opinion of the United States. In particular, a sharp increase in negative attitudes towards the United States was observed among the population of the European Union countries.

Former NATO Secretary General and one of the authors of the study, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, noted that he was not surprised by the situation in this regard:

“This sharp decline in the world's perception of the United States is not unexpected. In recent years, the US's foreign policy, diplomatic relations and positions in international agreements have raised many questions in other countries," Rasmussen said.

Another interesting result of the study was that for the first time, China surpassed the US in terms of global reputation. According to the respondents, the PRC is beginning to be perceived as a reliable partner in international relations and a country pursuing a stable policy.

At the same time, Russia continues to strengthen its international position. The policy of this country's President Vladimir Putin was positively assessed by 32 percent of the survey participants. It is worth noting that this indicator is on a par with the level of support for Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Meanwhile, the number of those who positively assessed Donald Trump's policy was only 27 percent, which once again confirms the declining reputation of the US leader.

According to international policy experts, the decline in the reputation of the United States is due to Trump's harsh foreign policy statements, withdrawal from a number of international agreements, and contradictory positions in diplomatic negotiations.
