New gas field discovered in the Black Sea for Turkey
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced the discovery of a new large natural gas field in the Black Sea. According to him, following 49 days of drilling and technical testing, gas reserves amounting to 75 billion cubic meters were discovered at the Göktepe-3 field.

— This amount is sufficient to supply households across Turkey with gas for 3.5 years. The estimated value of the reserves is around 30 billion dollars, — Erdoğan said in a speech in Istanbul.

Current supply supports 4 million households

Currently, Turkey supplies natural gas to approximately 4 million households through 9.5 billion cubic meters of gas extracted from the Black Sea. The goal is to increase this figure fourfold by 2028.

Total reserves reach 540 billion cubic meters

According to the president, such discoveries are the result of Turkey’s strategic moves in the energy sector. Including previous discoveries, the total amount of confirmed gas reserves in the Black Sea now stands at 540 billion cubic meters. It is worth noting that in 2021, a field with 135 billion cubic meters was also reported.

Zamin.uz editorial note:
This new gas discovery in the Black Sea plays a critical role in expanding Turkey’s domestic energy resources, reducing dependency on external sources, and enhancing economic stability. It may also have broader implications for the regional energy market.
