US Vice President James Vance openly stated in an interview with Sky News that the negotiations on the war in Ukraine have reached a “dead end.” According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin does not know how to end the war, which is why the US leadership is seriously reconsidering the situation.
“President Trump is expected to have a phone conversation with Putin on May 19. He will ask him: ‘How serious are you?’ This is a very important question,” Vance said.
“We will not choose our war”
According to Vance, if the Russian side is not ready for negotiations, the US may at some point come and declare the position that “this is not a war for us.” This, as Vance noted, means entering peace talks under even greater pressure.
Putin remains on a “cold” strategy
According to sources close to the Kremlin, Putin is not interested in ending the war for now. His goal is to take full control of four regions of Ukraine (Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson) by the end of the year.
According to this information, Putin is not even worried about new sanctions that may be imposed by the US and does not believe that Trump will provide significant concessions in the agreement.
Concerns are growing in Kiev
According to an analytical article published by CNN, the Ukrainian leadership is afraid that Trump and Putin will agree on peace terms and force Kiev to make hasty decisions by threatening to stop US arms aid.
For this reason, Ukraine is currently intensifying diplomatic activity to divert the attention of the political center in Washington and attract Trump's attention.
