According to the statement of the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, more than 20 thousand people who received Russian citizenship were sent to the combat zones in Ukraine. It is emphasized that they are mainly citizens from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, who later received Russian passports.
According to Bastrykin, the number of citizens who did not want to go to the "military registration office" in Russia exceeds 80 thousand. Among them are those who were detained, and most of them were forcibly registered for military service. At the same time, 20 thousand young migrants were "sent to the front line," the head of the Investigative Committee noted.
Compulsory service in exchange for citizenship
In recent months, Russian law enforcement agencies have been conducting large-scale raids. During these raids, people who have received citizenship but are not registered for military service are being issued summonses and taken to "military registration offices." In some cases, there are those who are being threatened with their passports and forced to sign a contract to fight.
In June 2024, Bastrykin once again spoke on this topic, saying that 30 thousand foreigners who were not on military registration had been detained. 10 thousand of them were sent to work “digging trenches” behind the front.
