Britain has suspended talks on a free trade agreement with Israel due to the new Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip. This was announced by the head of the British Foreign Office, David Lemmy https://daryo.uz/k/2025/05/20/britaniya-gazodagi-operatsiya-tufayli-isroil-bilan-savdo-muzokaralarini-tokhtatdi.
According to him, London made this decision because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blocked the delivery of humanitarian aid and increased hostilities in the enclave.
“Negotiations on a free trade agreement between the United Kingdom and Israel have been officially suspended, with immediate effect,” the British Foreign Office said in a statement.
The ministry added that it was no longer possible to continue discussing the agreement with the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is “pursuing a brutal policy in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.”
Israel’s ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, was summoned to the British Foreign Office over the Israeli military’s attack on the Gaza Strip.
“Today I will convey to Ambassador Hotovely our government’s position against the completely disproportionate escalation of military activity in Gaza and emphasize that the blockade of aid to Gaza for 11 weeks was callous and unjustified,” said Hamish Falconer, the British Minister for the Middle East.
He added that Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law and ensure full, rapid, safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid to the population.
