Iran-US nuclear talks enter new phase

The nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, which have become one of the most pressing topics in the global political arena in recent months, are returning. According to the ISNA agency, the next - the fifth - round of negotiations involving representatives of the two countries has begun in Italy. This time, the meeting is being held not directly, but in the form of indirect dialogue.

The Iranian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. He left for Italy with an official delegation on Friday and arrived in the city where the talks will be held during the day. On the US side, Steve Witkoff is participating in the process as President Trump's special representative.

Before the start of the negotiations, an Iranian Foreign Ministry official said that Tehran intends to discuss issues related to the US position on sanctions and its strategic approach to the nuclear program at this meeting.

It should be recalled that the fourth round, held on May 11, was held in Oman. The Iranian Foreign Ministry described this round as a "complex but mutually understanding" process. At this meeting, Tehran proposed to Washington the idea of ​​creating a regional consortium to enrich uranium. It is planned that this consortium will include not only Iran, but also other key players in the region, such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

At the same time, despite the ongoing negotiations, on May 13 the United States imposed new economic sanctions on Iran. This event caused mixed reactions in the international community. According to some sources, Iran expressed its readiness to consider Washington's proposals for a new draft of the nuclear agreement in exchange for the lifting of these sanctions.

According to NBC, it was noted that Iran is currently seeking to reach an agreement through negotiations and ease foreign political pressure. European countries are also not indifferent to this process - they are also actively participating in this process as supporters of a mutual agreement.
