Zelensky: Peace in Ukraine can only be ensured by weapons

Zelensky: Peace in Ukraine can only be ensured by weapons
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that peace in the country could begin soon. In an interview with the German RTL television channel, he said that this process should begin with a ceasefire and then lead to a lasting peace. According to the president, “This peace could begin tomorrow,” but for this Ukraine needs the necessary military support.

Zelensky, while emphasizing Kiev’s readiness for peace, said that he had not yet seen such readiness from Moscow. Therefore, he called on the international community to further increase pressure on Russia.

When will the conflict end?

In an interview with journalists on May 28, the Ukrainian leader expressed hope that the war could end by June 2026. In his opinion, the main role in this will be played by the analysis of Ukrainian intelligence and the conclusions of international think tanks.

Zelensky noted that if the 18th package of sanctions imposed by the European Union and new, stronger restrictions from the United States are effective, the fighting could end much faster. He also stressed that Ukraine does not want to remain on the front line until 2026, but is fighting to ensure peace as soon as possible.

Taurus missiles and cooperation with Germany

During the conversation, Zelensky also expressed his opinion on the Taurus long-range missiles requested from Berlin. According to him, Ukraine and Germany are actively working on this issue, but for now it has been agreed not to provide specific information in this direction.

“I made a promise to Chancellor Friedrich Merz and I am faithful to this word. I cannot give detailed information now, but the work is in progress,” the Ukrainian leader said.

The German Chancellor, in turn, expressed her readiness to supply Ukraine with weapons and jointly produce certain types of weapons. According to him, Great Britain, France, the United States and Germany have lifted restrictions on arms supplies to Ukraine in recent months, which has become an important factor in strengthening the country's defense.

Zelensky's words imply that Ukraine wants peace, but this desire can be realized not only through diplomacy, but also with strong defense and international support. While the opposing positions between Moscow and Kiev remain, Ukraine is working closely with NATO and the European Union.

There is a possibility that peace will begin tomorrow, but to preserve and consolidate this peace, global political will and a clear strategy are required.
