Another scandal has been recorded on the US political scene. Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, has formally requested former President Donald Trump to provide a full list of people who attended Trump's recent dinner with investors and the sources of the funds they used to purchase the cryptocurrency "memcoin".
This was reported by The Washington Post, which got acquainted with Raskin's official letter to Congress.
"Americans need to know who is giving Trump hundreds of millions of dollars"
According to Raskin, Trump's cryptocurrency project is far from transparent and leaves serious questions unanswered. The congressman noted:
“If this list is published, the American people will be able to find out who is putting hundreds of millions of dollars in Trump’s pocket. Then they will be able to determine whether they are only receiving useless tokens or other benefits in return.”
In his opinion, this crypto project is not only serving financial interests, but may also be implementing some criminal schemes through it. Therefore, Raskin demands to verify that the sources of funds received from these tokens are not related to terrorism, drug trafficking or other illegal activities.
Parliamentary investigation begins
Following the congressman’s appeal, it was announced that a new parliamentary investigation into Trump’s activities has begun. The focus of this investigation is the “TRUMP memcoin” cryptocurrency, its financial flows and relations with investors.
In fact, this cryptocurrency project was announced to the public in late 2024, when Trump was running for president again on his Truth Social platform. According to CoinMarketCap, the token has a daily trading volume of more than $11 billion. This, according to crypto experts, is an exceptionally high profit figure.
White House: “It was a private event”
Trump supporters and his personal press secretary, Carolyn Leavitt, insist that this dinner was not an official state event and that Trump attended it as a private person. She also recalled that during his presidency, Trump transferred his assets to his children in a trust.
Through these statements, the Trump administration is trying to portray this event and the cryptocurrency project as a personal business. However, representatives of the Democratic Party do not consider this position to be sufficiently substantiated and are determined to continue the investigation.
Who is behind Trump's "memcoin"? On what terms did investors invest? How legitimate are the sources of the funds? Finding answers to these questions is important not only from a political point of view, but also from a legal point of view.
The debate over the enrichment of cryptocurrency projects, the issue of transparency and conflicts of interest is expected to intensify in the American political environment. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
