The situation in the Middle East is once again escalating. According to information spread by Lebanese media, the Israel Defense Forces carried out another artillery strike on the city of Ayta ash-Shaab, located in the Nabatieh province in southern Lebanon. This operation, at first glance, may seem like an ordinary border violation, but in fact, it is considered another clear indication of the ongoing instability in the region, Lebanese media report.
So far, no official information has been released about casualties, injuries, or damage to infrastructure as a result of this attack. At the same time, there is an alarming situation among the local population: people are leaving their homes, and emergency services have increased security measures.
It should be noted that this is not the first case. Despite the ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon on November 27, 2024, Israeli military forces repeatedly violate this regime. According to official statistics, the peace agreement has been violated more than 3,000 times in recent months. As a result of these incidents, at least 213 civilians have been killed and 508 people have been injured to varying degrees.
Furthermore, according to agreements recognized by international law and the United Nations, Israel had undertaken the obligation to fully withdraw its forces from Lebanese territory. However, the practical situation is different: five important strategic points in southern Lebanon — mountainous and control points — are still under the control of the Israeli army.
The city of Ayta ash-Shaab itself is also regularly subjected to rocket attacks and airstrikes. This region has been marked as one of the most dangerous zones in recent months due to numerous attacks. The residents of the city live in constant danger and fear in their daily lives. For babies, women, and the elderly, there are no safe places left.
The Israeli side, in turn, tries to justify these military operations as "defensive necessity" and "anti-terrorist operation." However, these claims are being met with serious criticism on the international stage. Especially as the number of civilian casualties grows, the world community is strengthening its position of absolute rejection of such actions.
Lebanese officials continue to appeal to international organizations to ensure peace and protect the people from danger. However, so far, there are no visible results. The Lebanese army and internal security forces are making every effort to stabilize the situation, but their capabilities are limited in the face of external aggression.
Such strikes not only negatively affect relations between the two states but may also ignite a new fire of conflict for the entire region. International organizations, especially the UN and the European Union, are required to make sharp and clear statements regarding such incidents. Because military balance cannot be ensured at the cost of civilian lives.
In conclusion, it can be said that the situation in southern Lebanon is becoming increasingly unstable, and this reality is a very serious test for international diplomacy. Israel's withdrawal from the five strategic points mentioned and the full fulfillment of its obligations will be one of the key steps toward peace. If this is not achieved, the number of victims may increase even further, and the likelihood of a new large-scale conflict may rise. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
