According to Russian officials, a long-range drone attack carried out by Ukraine targeted a military plant located in the central Russian city of Izhevsk. As a result of the attack, three people were killed and another 35 were hospitalized. Ten of them are reported to be in serious condition.
According to Udmurtia Governor Aleksandr Brechalov, two long-range drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) flew approximately 1,300 km and struck the Kupol Electromechanical Plant.
This plant holds significant importance in Russia’s military industry, producing “Tor” air defense systems, “Osa” complexes, and radar systems. According to Ukrainian media, the plant is also involved in drone manufacturing.
Videos verified by the BBC show an explosion on the roof of the plant and black smoke rising into the sky. Following the explosion, Russia’s civil aviation agency, Rosaviatsia, imposed temporary restrictions at Izhevsk Airport, but these were lifted a few hours later.
This was the second drone attack targeting the Kupol plant. The previous strike in November 2024 occurred without casualties.
Ukrainian officials, commenting on the attack, stated that such special operations aim to weaken Russia’s military capability, disrupt military production chains, and demonstrate that even deep within Russian territory, military facilities are not safe. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
