The international political scene regarding the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine has once again become full of heated events, reports dw.com. This week, after a meeting in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, the American leadership announced that they now understand even better the conditions under which Russia is ready to end the war.
According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as a result of the negotiations, for the first time, Washington has a complete understanding of Russia’s specific demands for ending the war. “For the first time, we have precise and logical information about the conditions Russia puts forward to end the war,” Rubio said on Fox Business’s Kudlow program.
During the talks, Moscow once again emphasized its main position: any ceasefire agreement in Ukraine must primarily address the issue of territorial status, meaning that resolving the status of certain territories is put at the forefront. Russia reiterated that territorial issues must be a key element in any agreements.
After the meeting, the AP and dpa agencies, citing their sources, reported that Donald Trump intends to hold direct talks with Vladimir Putin on ways to end the war in Ukraine. According to the sources, this meeting may take place in the first days of the week starting August 11.
Commenting on these reports, Marco Rubio said that, so far, there is no clarity on exactly which day the Trump–Putin meeting will take place. “Everything depends on what agreements can be reached during the negotiation process,” said the US Secretary of State. He also stressed that much work remains to be done to ensure the security of such a high-level meeting.
According to available information, Donald Trump currently has no plans to organize a phone call with Putin. The negotiation process and security issues remain a major concern.
New developments and the evolution of political negotiations have become a central point of interest for all international experts, especially for the public concerned about the situation in Ukraine. The latest news further highlights what twists the negotiations may take.
