On the morning of Thursday, August 7, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had held extensive diplomatic conversations with the international community. According to him, the main goal of these contacts is to achieve real and practical progress toward peace, as well as to ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence under any geopolitical conditions.
Zelensky stated that he plans to hold an important conversation with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. In addition, regular contact continues with high-level political partners in France and Italy. The Ukrainian leader also noted that he had instructed the organization of special-format discussions at the level of national security advisors, demonstrating his intention to make international dialogue more effective and meaningful.
At the same time, in the Russian capital Moscow, U.S. President's special representative Steven Witkoff held important negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks lasted more than two and a half hours, and it was reported that the main focus was on the next steps in joint efforts to resolve the Russia–Ukraine conflict. This was stated by Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.
Also on August 7, Ushakov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump might hold a personal meeting “in the near future.” Although specific dates and locations were not mentioned, it was reported that the issue is being actively discussed in diplomatic circles.
Additionally, according to the TASS state news agency, Moscow has not yet provided an official response to Steven Witkoff's proposal for a trilateral meeting between Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Volodymyr Zelensky.
