US authorities have once again announced a firm position on the international political stage. Vice President James Vance, at an important meeting in London with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, openly stated that there are no plans to recognize Palestine as an independent state. According to him, Washington is currently not considering any steps in this regard and is focusing its main attention on the complete destruction of the radical Hamas group.
Vance said in his statement:
— I personally do not understand the practical meaning of recognizing the Palestinian state, since there is no real and fully authorized government there.
According to him, President Donald Trump has clearly defined America’s goals regarding the situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip. The first and main task is that Hamas must never again attack Israel’s innocent civilian population. As the only way to achieve this goal, the US emphasizes the necessity of destroying the radical movement.
The second important issue is the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Vance noted that President Trump is deeply affected by the terrible and grim scenes in this region. Therefore, Washington intends to take decisive measures to solve this problem.
It should be recalled that in July, Trump assessed the results of negotiations between Hamas and Israel as unsatisfactory. According to him, the group’s complete surrender is the most effective way to resolve the crisis in the shortest possible time.
A day earlier, the Israeli government had approved a plan to expand the ground military operation in the Gaza Strip. This decision, in turn, was taken in response to Hamas’s refusal to engage in negotiations for the release of captured Israelis.
At the same time, three countries of the “G7” — France, the United Kingdom, and Canada — announced their intention to recognize Palestine as an independent state. This process may be formalized in September at the UN General Assembly.
At present, 147 countries of the world have officially recognized the State of Palestine. In 2024, the US vetoed Palestine’s admission as a full member of the UN. From that year, another ten countries, including Ireland, Norway, Spain, and Armenia, supported this decision.
Such political disputes on the international stage remain an important test not only for the Middle East region but also for global diplomacy as a whole.
