A major industrial enterprise engaged in the production of weapons, located in the Ryazan region of Russia — the “Elastik” plant — has once again become the center of a tragic event. According to Ryazan emergency services, a powerful explosion in the weapons production department on the plant’s premises caused a major stir throughout the region.
Official reports confirm that at least 5 people were killed as a result of the explosion, and another 20 people sustained injuries of varying severity. Among the victims are both plant workers and technical specialists who were on-site at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses stated that the blast was so powerful that it could be heard several kilometers away from the scene. Following the incident, specialized fire safety teams promptly arrived at the location. However, due to the high temperature and the properties of the explosive materials, the fire spread quickly. According to officials, the fire has now been completely extinguished.
This plant has a history of serious accidents — in 2021, a violation of the technological process led to an explosion that claimed the lives of 17 people and left many workers severely injured.
The Investigative Committee of Russia has launched a criminal case regarding the current incident. Preliminary causes being considered include violation of technological discipline, failure to comply with fire safety regulations, or human error. Specialists are working to determine the exact causes of the explosion, the scale of material damage, and the economic impact on the plant’s operations.
This tragedy has once again raised the issue of industrial safety in Russia, particularly the adherence to technological discipline and safety standards at defense industry facilities. Experts emphasize the need to strengthen safety control at such sites and to ensure a high level of staff training.
