On August 17, the “Garden Ring” race was entered into the Russian Book of Records. It was recorded as the largest mass start in this category — more than 11,000 athletes took part at the starting line. In total, more than 30,000 people participated in the event, reports Daily.afisha.
According to Deputy Mayor of the city Maxim Liksutov:
“Today, ‘Garden Ring’ has for the first time become a continuous marathon route. We set a Russian record for the largest free start on a 16-kilometer distance in the city center,” he said.
According to the official, interest in such events is growing every year:
“We continue to support the population’s interest in sports and help them spend their free time in a meaningful way,” Liksutov added.
In the competition, participants could choose the distance according to their ability: a 500-meter route for children, and up to 16 kilometers for experienced athletes. Winners and prize holders were awarded cups and commemorative gifts.
