After nearly an hour-long face-to-face conversation between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, their joint negotiations with European leaders began. This meeting attracts attention as it is important not only for the two heads of state but also for peace and stability across the region.
Trump described the negotiations with Zelensky as successful and effective. He expressed hope for reaching agreements with EU leaders that would lead to a trilateral meeting with Russia, as well as based on the results of the conversation with Zelensky. According to the US President, these meetings are an important step in striving for peace and stability.
Donald Trump emphasized that the summit held in Alaska gave him confidence in achieving peace. “Putin stated his readiness to accept security guarantees for Ukraine,” he told journalists. According to him, Putin and Zelensky can reach a common understanding and agree on resolving the conflict in Ukraine peacefully.
“The next important step is a trilateral meeting on Ukraine. After this meeting, I do not expect any aggressive actions by Russia against Ukraine,” Trump said.
At the meeting, along with Zelensky, attended German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Their talks contribute to making important decisions in international politics and are aimed at ensuring stable peace in Europe and worldwide.
