On August 21, the U.S. Department of State released a very important statement. It was reported that currently more than 55 million foreigners holding valid American visas are undergoing a special review for possible violations of immigration laws. This was reported by the Associated Press agency.
According to representatives of the Department of State, the agency constantly monitors visa holders’ compliance with the rules. In particular, it checks whether the visa has expired and whether the person has any ties to crime or terrorism. If it is determined that these requirements were violated, the person’s visa is immediately revoked. If the person is in the United States, they are deported.
In addition, the department noted that since Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2025, the number of revoked visas has doubled compared to the same period last year. Especially sharp has been the rise in revoked student visas — the figure is four times higher than last year.
According to information announced in early August, more than 6,000 student visas were revoked due to violations. These included overstaying the allowed period in the country, various offenses, assaults, drunk driving, as well as support for terrorism. Exact figures indicate that around 4,000 visas were revoked due to law violations, and another 200–300 were canceled for terrorism-related reasons.
Thus, visa control in the United States is being strengthened. Officials emphasized that these measures are being taken to ensure public safety and compliance with the law. Foreign students and visa holders were once again reminded of the need to strictly follow all rules to remain legally in the country.
