Zelensky said in his Independence Day speech that Ukraine will continue fighting for freedom
President of Ukraine Zelensky addressed the nation on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day. He emphasized that Ukraine needs a just peace, and this peace must be achieved only by Ukrainians themselves. “Ukraine has not yet won, but it has not lost either,” he said.

Zelensky’s speech came after reports of an attack on a nuclear power plant in Russia. Russia stated that a fire broke out due to drones, but it was quickly extinguished. The International Atomic Energy Agency once again reminded of the need to protect nuclear facilities.

Independence Day celebrations were held in the center of Kyiv. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney took part and announced that military aid worth more than one billion dollars would be sent to Ukraine. Britain and Norway also confirmed their support for Ukraine’s defense.

Russia said it had captured two villages in the Donetsk region. Since the beginning of the war, Russian forces have controlled about 20% of Ukraine’s territory. Nevertheless, Ukrainians continue to fight for their independence.

Last week, US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a meeting, but it did not bring the expected result. Zelensky said that Russia is prolonging the war and stressed that Ukraine will continue its resistance until a just peace is achieved.
